Downtown Clean Up Day

The Heart of Taunton, Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Taunton Business Improvement District will be participating in the downtown Clean Up Day on Friday April 22nd from 6am-12noon.

Several areas in the downtown will be spruced up for a good Spring cleaning including Broadway, Main Street and all the public parking areas.

Last year, 40 participants weeded, raked, shoveled and removed debris from the downtown area. This year, the Heart of Taunton is pleased to announce a downtown collaboration with other area agencies to enhance this yearly celebration of Earth Day.

There will be two shifts on April 22nd: 6am-9am or 9am-12noon. Participants are encouraged to invite friends, family and coworkers to participate as well as any school aged children on April vacation that may be interested in assisting with the clean up. The DPW will also be assisting in this project.

Anyone interested in the Clean Up Day is encouraged to bring their own rakes, shovels and brooms. Lunch will be provided for all that attend.

For more information or to sign up for a shift, contact the Heart of Taunton office at 508-880-4960 or e-mail heartoftaunton@aol.com.

Parking Commission

The Parking Commission is currently working with the Jacobs Group to design the third level of the Municipal Parking Deck. The design process can be tedious but it is hopeful that the plans will be approved within the next couple of weeks and a construction timeline can begin. The Commission is also reviewing the Armory site on Pleasant Street for additional parking as once the courthouse project is completed by early Summer, the Armory lot will be given back to the City.

Galligan's Lot restructuring is also in process of final phasing as a design has been selected and all of the City Departments have been working with the Commission to move the project along as quickly as possible.

The Commission is looking at all possible additional 'on' and 'off' street parking locations in anticipation of the new Courthouse.

Members of the Parking Commission: Edward Valadao, Jay Dorsey, Ron Swartz, Julie Sprague, Kerrie Babin, Jason Buffington and Richard Bernier. The Commission meets regularly at the Taunton Police Station every month. Meeting notifications can be found on the City of Taunton's website.

Members of the Bristol County Savings Bank Charitable Foundation present a check to Executive Director Julie Sprague.
